Adding LED Lighting To Your Pool

Thinking of adding underwater lights to your pool?
If your pool hasn't got any form of lighting don't despair this can be solved by installing the latest LED lighting. Though more expensive than traditional spot lights, LEDs consume 80% less ( which is very welcome today when electric companies are squeezing more and more out of us ) and last up to 100,000 hours, according to manufacturers. This is the equivalent to a staggering 54 years if you have your lights on for 5 hours per night. We have just reformed a large community pool and installed LED lighting where there was none before.
This involved cutting a superficial channel into the pool shell for the new cable, drilling a number of holes for the new light assembly, running a cable or cables with multiple lights to the power source and installing transformers and an automatic time clock to control when the lights come on and off. As the photos illustrate, once completed the new tiling which cover the cable are imperceptible.

Why Use Ultra Violet For Your Pool ?

Why would you choose Ultra Violet Lamps to sanitize your much loved swimming pool when you could use a salt system, ionizers, ozone or just plain old chlorine?
 In my humble opinion I believe the reasons are many. Firstly if you don't want your family and friends swimming around in a pool full of chemiclas and their damaging by-products, then a UV lamp unit is a very interesting alternative. Secondly if you wish to reduce your carbon footprint and repect the environment you live in then UV makes perfect sense.
Ultra Violet lamps reduce the need for chlorine by a staggering 75-80% and can reduce it completely if used with Inproxide - the latest safe sanitizer for drinking water and pools. Blue Lagoon Lamps are made by the giant Philips,  need little maintenance and are readily available. Another attractive advantage is their lifespan of 9000 hours or 3 summers ( at optimum power ). Replacement lamps cost from 40€ to 130€ depending on pool size.

There are an increasing amount of people that simply don't enjoy swimming in chlorine or are alergic to it's rather aggresive qualities and for anyone with asthma or respiratory problems UV is a very welcomed inroad.

Bringing a Pool Back To Life

An old and tired looking pool can be brought back to life by grouting it. By ' grouting' we mean putting new cement inbetween the tiles.
The first job is to empty the pool! Next the pool is acid washed - not the nicest of jobs. Once acid washed the pool will be power washed. It should now shine and look as new - well almost.
After the cleaning phase, it's time to grout. As you can see from the photos the effect is stunning. This should be done approximately every 4 years.
The spring is the best time to do this before the heat kicks in

I've been in the pool business since 1994, working on The Costa Del Sol, Southern Spain.
In all this time I have installed many new and so called ' state of the art ' systems for sanitizing and disinfecting  swimming pool water. Many have been overly expensive, some have been inefficient and a few have really worked and lasted many years giving relatively trouble-free service.
  I have been searching and researching over the years for a way of reducing chlorine and toxic, nasty chemicals in pool water and improving the quality of clients' much loved H20 and improving the swimming experience. One of my criteria has been providing this at a reasonable cost since earlier sanitizing systems have been, in my opinion, over-priced. If anybody today does the research on the net they are bound to come to the same place where I have arrived. That is the utilization of Ultra Violet- C lamps for keeping the pool crystal clear, healthy, appetizing and ecologically friendly at a very reasonable price that is cost effective over an incredibly short time period. Perhaps most importantly, though, is the drastic reduction in chlorine use. UV-c lamps make it possible to cut down chlorine by 75-85 %. This is very interesting for all pool users because chlorine at these low levels becomes imperceptible and the water just keeps perfect.....Great!

Preparing pool for the summer season

When you live in Northern Europe it's difficult to imagine the incrediblely good climate in Southern Spain at this time of the year. Now is probably the best time to start preparing your much-loved swimming pool for the new pool season on The Costa Del Sol. The next couple of months will fly by as we head for yet another sizzling summer and most people like to have their pool up and running for Semana Santa ( Easter week ).
Preparation might include a complete reform - refurbishment - grouting, changing filter sand, having your pump repaired etc. etc.
